Serra da Estrela from Villa Sentia
São Romão sits on the northern slope of the mountains, next to Seia. From here you can be high in the Serra quickly and back home by evening.
Torre and snow
Torre is the highest point of mainland Portugal, at 1,993 m. In winter the road leads to the ski resort; the rest of the year the view reaches the neighbouring ranges.
Lakes and valleys
Lagoa Comprida lies on the road to Torre. Further east, Covão d'Ametade shelters birch trees near the source of the Zêzere, at the head of the glacial valley.
Granite villages
Sabugueiro is Portugal's highest village. Loriga sits among terraces and has one of the region's loveliest river beaches.
The Serra table
Serra da Estrela cheese, requeijão, rye bread and mountain honey. Shops and restaurants in Seia and the villages serve them the way they always have.
